SARTORIAL SANITY: Is Chanel Going Grunge?

Me thinks yes. Karl Lagerfeld's Fall/Winter 2011 collection for the usually clean and pristine fashion house is quite the opposite. From slouchy jackets and trousers to dark grays, blacks and emerald greens, Lagerfeld's color palette is super accessible while still retaining its high fashion rigueur.

COCKTAIL CHATTER: Zoe Chanel, Chanel Zoe

It looks like Rachel Zoe was 'inspired,' to say the least, by Karl Lagerfeld's Fall/Winter 2010 Chanel collection.

Chanel Cruise 2011 - how bizarre?

I have to say, I was a bit confused by Lagerfeld's Cruise 2011 collection. The overall aesthetic of the collection seemed to be bit all over the place - other than a few cropped boucle knit jackets thrown over bikini tops or paired with leather shorts, I couldn't find any semblances that were strikingly Chanel. And, I hope you share in my toothy gasp when you scroll down to see the patched denim monstrosity paired with a cropped cranberry cardigan. Props to Lagerfeld, though, for having a few plus size models strutting their stuff down the runway. Let me know, am I just not getting it or is the collection as a whole kind of bizarre?

Abominable or fashionable?

Don't ask me how, but I managed to overlook Chanel's RTW Fall 2010 show until this morning as my finger was frozen in click-mode as it made its way through countless slideshows on style.com. But, hovering over my mouse pad, my clicking finger stopped dead in its tracks as it got to Karl Lagerfeld's quite literal translation of global warming. A runway made to look like ice caps and male and female models snug inside fur body suits (that looked not unlike that of the abominable snowman), there were pieces that were all together a bit comical looking. But, being the genius that he is, Lagerfeld was able to create a collection that evolved from the absurd to the avant-garde wearable incorporating fur accents throughout the collection- even weaving fur into his signature boucle-knit tweeds.

Tattoos and helmets and surfboards UGH!

So, I've written about Chanel helmets and tattoos and now, I cannot pry my fingers away from my keyboard (a new Macbook Pro I just bought and love! Sorry bank account) as I lethargically type these next two words: Chanel surfboard. Seriously? Why does Mr. Lagerfeld continue to rub these ridiculously chic things in our faces that we know we'll never be able to afford or more importantly need? What's next? Chanel cars or scotch tape or nail files?!

Your favorite designers at your fingertips

When you're getting ready in the morning, do you ever feel like you have a little Karl Lagerfeld whispering in your ear, "go for the boxy tweed jacket today" or mini Ralph Lauren urging you to go with a classic denim trouser and gingham button down? Well, even if you don't (maybe that's just me), now you really can! Check out these "fashionable finger puppets" made by Rubbish. From John Galliano to Hamish Bowles, these style-gushing minis are hilarious and adorable...and would be a great gift for the fashionista with a sense of humor on your list.

Hot head

The man can do no wrong...even when designing helmets? It's true and from the first time we saw them on Karl Lagerfeld's runways last spring, they have finally come to fruition and are available at Colette in Paris as well as other various specialty stores. These tough chapeaux range from $1,805 to $6,837 and include anything from mink to pearl detailing. This is a giant step for all of those fashion conscious motorcycle riders out there! Hey, if you can pull it off, more power to you!
