SARTORIAL SANITY: Dress myself in 3.1. Phillip Lim SS 2011

Phillip Lim's S/S 2011 collection for his 3.1 line is absolutely breathtaking. I loved the color palette of muted neutrals paired with that exquisite bright icy blue. For me, this collection seems like the option for a rainy day--but not in a negative way. All of the pieces have something a bit dark and serious about them while still managing to be very youthful and fresh. I love the sheer wrap coat and the tassel-tied polka-dot pants. Each look here is so different but, like always, Phillip manages to achieve a cohesiveness that makes him the reason why fashion's heavyweights are taking notice of the youngster's who are killing on the runways.

Starch much?

Maison Martin Margiela's spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection has me at a bit of a loss for words. The collection brings an entirely new meaning to the "strong-shouldered" jacket. The quasi-sandwich-board-effect seemed to be the dominant look as menswear inspired jackets and shirts had me waiting for models to start cat-calling sandwich specials. An ironic emphasis of menswear on the woman's body? An attempt to put women in a chic box? A stance again dry-cleaners who over-starch our shirts? Any help in making some sense out of this collection would be greatly appreciated!
