Christian Siriano: he's back in the game

Last season, I was a bit harsh (i.e. "Christian Siriano up in smoke") on Project Runway alum, Christian Siriano's, fall 2010 collection. I think it was a coupling of the fog machine (which pretty much ruined any chances of a good runway shot) as well as a lack of what we know and love Siriano for - romantic details and an over-the-top finale. Well, this season, I am relieved to say, was magic: the Ralph Lauren-reminiscent bronze sequin gown (with a neckline to die for), champagne metallic suits, buttery leather capes and fluted shorts, and - of course - finale girls swathed in organza and chiffon.

Christian Siriano up in smoke

So, I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for saying this but, as a whole, I was really unimpressed with Christian Siriano's show yesterday. First of all, the smoke machine that I believe was supposed to give a look of whimsy resulted in coughing front-rowers, awful pictures, and an old, dusty feeling- not quite the desired effect, I'm assuming. Then, making their way through the smog, were the clothes. Raw silk, black iridescent pant suits, a bevy of jewel tone silk strapless dresses with ruffle details and an organza ball gown in fuschia (although breathtaking) to finish it off- it's not like any of these looks were poorly designed or executed, it's just that I've seen them all before: like a thousand times! For such a new designer who made his claim to fame based on making avant-garde wearable, I was expecting something really fresh. It's sad to see a designer who had so much creativity get sucked into the whole game of designing solely for what sells. Saving grace: the architectural, sky-scraping heels were pretty "fierce."

The King of Fierce is back

Ladies (and gentlemen) hold your breath! The king of fierce is once again going to grace us with his fabulousness! Christian Siriano, Project Runway Alum, is going to be invading our homes once again on a weekly basis on his new documentary style Bravo TV spin-off. The designer will take us with him through the triumphs and tribulations of creating his Spring and Fall 2010 lines. The show is supposed to be The September Issue-esque as it really gets behind the scenes of what it takes to create a comprehensive collection and the inside scoop on where Siriano's inspiration for his wears comes from.

Do you think this is just Bravo grasping at its former Project Runway glory days or will you tune in?
