Chanel Cruise 2011 - how bizarre?

I have to say, I was a bit confused by Lagerfeld's Cruise 2011 collection. The overall aesthetic of the collection seemed to be bit all over the place - other than a few cropped boucle knit jackets thrown over bikini tops or paired with leather shorts, I couldn't find any semblances that were strikingly Chanel. And, I hope you share in my toothy gasp when you scroll down to see the patched denim monstrosity paired with a cropped cranberry cardigan. Props to Lagerfeld, though, for having a few plus size models strutting their stuff down the runway. Let me know, am I just not getting it or is the collection as a whole kind of bizarre?

Stunners at the 2010 Met Gala

Other than just a few offenders (Kristen Stewart somehow managed to make Chanel Haute Couture look bad) the celebs at this year's Met Costume Institute Gala were flawless. From Blake Lively in a leggy Marchesa minidress to Zoe Saldana and Diane Krueger both in fitted gowns from Calvin Klein Collection, it was a feast for the eyes - because we all know no one was going to be eating that night. Even funny girl, Tina Fey looked quite chic in an Yves Saint Laurent jump suit.

PARIS HAS BEEN STARTLED

Check out my new blog...PARIS HAS BEEN STARTLED. Last summer I started making these boldly bohemian and chic (if I do say so myself) headbands and was actually an NYC street vendor. I had a great time soaking up the rays on the sidewalk in Soho while spreading some fashion cheer and now after a bit of a respite, they're back by popular demand! So, check out my inventory and you can always email me if you want any sort of variation of what's shown. I'll be posting a lot more photos to the site once I have another little photo shoot.
XO and enjoy!

Interior Decorating 101

The lease for my current diggs is up at the end of this month so I just filed an application for the perfect apartment in the Financial District. And, even though I should be thinking about how I'm going to afford this new place, instead I was surfing the home section at Urban Outfitters online and found the chicest pieces for my new pad. Your thoughts (this means you Alex)...

The perfect red?

So, I realize that I have been writing a lot about lipstick lately. And well, prepare for more musings. A few months ago, I headed to Bloomingdale's in Soho on a mission to find the perfect shade of red lipstick. I went to just about every beauty counter asking for a deeply saturated blue-red color. "I'm looking for a red that doesn't have a pink or orange tint, just red." I'm pretty sure I frustrated every salesgirl on the first floor who came back to me smiling with what she thought was the perfect shade before I would have to let her down easily that it wasn't just right. Partly because I couldn't find the words other than "you know, like Pearl Harbor red" and because I really believed that it just wasn't out there, I gave up my search. But, the designer turned director turned beauty beau (what doesn't he do?), Tom Ford (former Gucci designer), came to me with the answer. His Private Blend Lip Color collection launches June 1st and although I haven't been able to test the could-be perfect red yet, I have high hopes for this one. Downside: each tube will retail for $45. But, if this is the perfect shade, compromises might have to be made.

Home on the Range - Vogue Nippon's Edita Vilkeviciute shot by Nathaniel Goldbert

Bling rings for every budget

In my younger years (aka. like, two years ago) I had completely sworn off rings. They were the one accessory that was more than off my radar - I despised them. I'm not quite sure why, but it was in the same vein that I swore off bell-bottom jeans when I was in the sixth grade - I even made my friends sign a pact that we would never give in to the flare-jean-wearing masses (so dramatic). But, back to finger-wear, as my style has evolved over the years, they're now my can't-get-enough accessory. Ch-ch-check these out!

Shin guards? Cotton armor? I don't know what it is but I like it...

For his Spring 2010 collection, Alexander Wang gave his girls something totally new and I don't really know what to call them. Shin guards? Comfy armor? Slutty calfs? Still not quite sure but I love these cut-out elastic knee-highs. Check out this rad DIY story from Jazzi McG to make your own!

Who is that behind those Foster Grants?

With summer heating up (finally) protect your baby blues, gorgeous greens or beautiful browns with these modern-chic sunglasses. Audrey Hepburn Ray Bans and Amelia Earhart aviators have gotten a bit bland so check out these lunettes de soleil and let me know what you think.
